Any Experience with SOLVIT?

Post by mEEA » Wed May 02, 2012 7:17 pm

I was wondering if SOLVIT could be of some help for cases which clearly breach EU laws discussed mainly in this website. Please share your experiences if any.

Many people expect Solvit to immediately solve their problem. But they are often slow, and the UK office seems to be indifferent unless you really push them.

I personally have had them solve my EU free movement related problem. I had to encourage and push and remind and repeat. But in the end they were effective.

Does this mean that they do not take people/laws/their job serious? Or this means that they do not know the laws and you need to convince them about your EU rights?

It is very hard to look behind the curtain and explain why Solvit UK do what they do.

Partly they get a lot of their information from UKBA, so there is a UKBA spin to it.

Partly because the legal issues are lost on some of their staff.

Partly because they have a lot to do and not so many people (1 person???).

Those are my glass half full impressions.

Thanks a lot. I will in any case try to get them on board. I will update you on this.

I have no experience, but would say that it is a effectively a means for someone to persuade a member state to apply the law correctly for a given problem. This can be useful for one who wants to avoid litigation.
