Citizenship Certificate to local authority council office

Post by shabz_81 » Fri May 04, 2012 10:20 pm

Hello

My wife received her Citizenship approval letter last Friday and the letter was dated Tuesday 24th April. She has been contacting our local council office where they register births to book a ceremony but they are saying they have not received her certificate from the home office. The lady said they receive certificates once a week and then they are logged onto the system. It has been over a week now since receiving the approval letter and still they have no certificate. Should we be getting worried about this? as we cannot progress further and book a ceremony without a certificate.

The lady said if we tried after the bank holiday on Tuesday....Is it the UKBA responsibilty of sorting this out??... as I don't see it being our responsibility of mislocating certificates. I had a look on the letter and the correct local authority address is stated on the the approval letter but I don't know what the delay is for the certificate..Has anyone else had this problem???

You are right. It's UKBA's responsibility to sort this out. I would recommend you to wait until mid of the week and then contact UKBA to sort this out.

First thing to check is if the council has received any certificates since the date you received yours (plus how frequently they receive them generally - we used a central London office so they get 30-70 every week but I imagine some provincial areas may not get them every week as standard).

If they havent received any then it is less of a concern. If they've received two batches but yours wasnt in either then it sounds there is more of an issue.

It is up to the UKBA to resolve but inevitably there isnt a feedback loop between the council and UKBA for the council to confirm receipt or chase missing certs.

If they dont get it in the next batch of certs then call UKBA and ask them to resend it to the council.
