Timing to apply for Tier2 switching from PSW

Hi
I got one Question
My PSW visa will expire on 4th February 2013. I am working now in engineering profession as a mechanical design engineer in mining industry and my salary is 32000 may be rise more. I have UK masters degree from University. My employer is willing to sponsor me for Tier 2 General visa.
My Q is can I apply in September/October 2012 later or sooner If I want to.

Anytime you wish to ... before your current leave expires.
IMHO, the sooner the better, if you qualify.
