Need an urgent advice for a friend,

-> Entered UK as a Tier2 ICT Est Staff in Oct2010 (valid from Oct2010 to May2012)
->Company applied for an extension for another 5 months
->He has got an extension until Sep 2012 as a ‘ Tier2 ICT long term Leave to remain’

Can he switch to T2 General (inside the UK) in the above scenario?
