HELP! Duplicate passport in HCI london

Post by Avantika » Sat May 12, 2012 12:03 am

Hi all,
I recently lost my Indian passport containing Student Visa and applied for a replacement passport at the HCI in London on 10/05/2012. I need to travel to India in 10 days, and I'm completely clueless about when I can expect to receive it. Is there any chance I can receive it in a week's time? Is there any method I can try?
The guy in HCI scared me saying that it will take me 3-4 weeks, can run into months...
Is this true? Please tell me how it long it takes...

If they haven't told you when you can receive it (they usually do, when renewing your passport at expiry)... not even an approx. timeline, then don't expect it to happen in 7 days.

Travelling to India in 10 days - and you still need to get a passport and then also apply for leave to remain before travelling - consider deferring travel.
Life isn't fair, but you can be!

I highly doubt it if you will get a new passport in 7-10 working days, considering you lost the previous passport. It will take few weeks if not few months for a re-issual. Lost passport re-issual process is not the same as a normal passport renewal process (i.e. once your passport validity expires and you apply for new one,which takes about 3-5 working days)

Why did you not apply for short validity passport or an Emergency Certificate. This is quicker to get than your standard passport (but has a shorter validity period). You could have then applied for a normal passport in India.

Kind help required; lost my indian passport with tier-2 visa

Post by sarash1234 » Wed May 16, 2012 12:06 pm

I lost my Indian passport with tier-2 visa 3 days back. I have my marriage coming up and I need to go to India by June 25th 2012; i have a bit more than 5 weeks left before i get a new passport and visa;

Can you please help me? I am in a terrible confusion

1) Should I apply for a new passport at HCI london? Will I get it within 5 weeks? or should i go for emergency certficate; i need to be there in india for marriage at any cost

2) Do you think I can process my UK tier 2 visa re issual process simultaneously? or do I need to the indian passport before I start the UK tier 2 visa reissual process? I hear I dont need passport for visa premium processing; but what about postal application for TOC of UK visa? any idea

3) the premium processing appointments for UK tier 2 visa are no earlier than 15th june; so I am thinking of using the postal application for TOC rather than premium processing; is it a good idea?

Please help me; I would highly appreciate it; thanks
