Switching from Tier-2 ICT to Tier-2 General

Hi,
I am currently working in UK on Tier-2 ICT visa. If a UK based company hires me and issues a certificate of sponsorship, I need to go back to India to apply for new visa. But do I need to resign from my current employer before applying for new visa or can I do that after I get new visa (for the new COS)?

Your choice ..... depending on your terms and conditions of employment (e.g. - notice period that you may have to serve).

Once issued leave sponsored by new sponsor, you will not be able to work in UK for the previous employer.
