Naturalisation and Travel abroad

Post by juliajules1979 » Sun May 13, 2012 7:56 pm

Hi

I've just got my approval letter through and am hoping to have my ceremony in about 3 weeks time. I will be travelling back to my home country on the 1st July, so I don't think I will have time to apply for my UK passport and receive my country passport back in time before I travel home.

Could you tell me if this will be a problem when I re enter the UK as I was told that if you are travelling overseas you need to re-enter on a British passport once naturalised because the ILR in your passport is no longer valid. Is this correct?

If this is the case I am not sure what I should do.

Many thanks

Thanks Jambo.

Just wondering, If I fill in my landing card as before and If I am questioned at passport control, will it not be demmed to be deceptive If I enter on my previous ILR and do not disclosethat I have British Citizenship. In the event they saw I had citizenship do you think If I played dumb and said I didn't know that I couldn't use foreign passport and ILR anymore that they would accept it and allow me to enter. I just don't want to create any problems for myself. There is no way I can change my flights and wait until I have applied for my British Passport and go later as its my brothers wedding and I cannot miss it.

Playing dumb would probably work.

There is no legal requirement for BC to enter the UK with a British passport.

I don't think the IO is able to tell from his system that you are a BC now (unless you tell him). As you are BC, he can't really stop you from entering the UK so if he tells you the ILR is now cancelled as you are BC, he will still need to let you enter (as he acknowledges you are BC).

Great thanks jambo, so play dumb unless questioned and then play my wild card, the BC Cerificate.
