Tier 2 application: upgrading from standard to premium servi

I couldn’t find this information here or in official websites:

I’ve recently applied for an extension in my Tier 2 leave to remain. I wanted to book a premium service, but did not manage to book a slot. As my old visa was due to expire, I decided to take no chances and to apply using the standard service (online application and payment + documents sent by first class royal mail). Now, I would really like to have my passport back as soon as possible, because I have urgent travel plans for the next two months.

Is it possible to upgrade to premium service after applying via standard service?

I guess, if you VISA has not expired, you could cancel the application and get your passport back from UKBA and apply in person. However, if your VISA has expired i would not recommend you to cancel, as you may have to leave the country.

You could possibly use the Tier 2 priority service by emailing UKVI the filled in form every morning until you get lucky. Here is the link to download the form.
