Moving from Tier -1(General) to dependant.

Post by anubhav78 » Tue May 15, 2012 1:31 pm

Hi All,

Me and my wife are both in the UK on a Tier1(General). Now that my wife's visa is for a renewal, I plan to move her as my dependant, so that we could apply for the ILR together.
Do you guys see any issue in this? I was filling up the Tier1 dependant forms and all it mentioned was Dependant visa extension, and nowhere was the previous visa status asked.
I need to apply from within the UK.

Regards,
Anubhav

You cannot switch visa category from within UK. Your wife would have to return back to her home country and apply as your dependant.

I know friends who have moved from Tier 2 to Tier 1 within UK. What i'm not sure of is what is the rule for dependant applications.
I tried searching for this on the UKBA website but could not find any mention.

Hi,
Sorry for restarting a discussion on an old thread, but it is in continuation to the discussion above.
I have a situation with my wife being pregnant.
Do you think this can be one the reasons to consider for a swtich (Tier1 to dependant) from wihin UK?
She cannot travel during this stage.

I tried calling the UKBA office at 0870 606 7766, but coudn't get through.
Any suggestions from experts as to how should I handle this situation?

Thanks.

But then, what would be the way out if she cannot travel.
She would end up as an overstayer, because her current visa expires and she cannot renew.

No offence, but this is something that you should have considered before planning for a child! Or perhaps asked these questions and cleared your doubts at a stage of her pregnancy when she could have travelled.

What stage of pregnancy is she at?
