Any advice for UK spouse visa please?!

Post by redvanman » Sat May 19, 2012 6:06 pm

Hi, this is my first time posting on here!

I am currently helping my Ukrainian wife with her UK spouse visa application. I am a UK born citizen. We have been together for 4 years (me flying to Ukraine/Russia) and got married 8 months ago.

I have some worries about the visa:

I can show via bank statement that I have £460 a month spare (for 6 months) towards supporting her, and £7000 in saving available from my grandparents via savings. Given we will be living at my parents house (local council have kindly done their certificate for £60 to assess it for our visa req.) - Does anybody think this will not be enough????! (No new clothes for me recently!!!!)

Has anybody else had to write to DWP to state their intention NOT to claim benefits when their spouse joins them?

How far will I need to go to prove my wife's employ ability in this country? She is a translator but tricky work past to prove in writing!

Any advice would be very gratefully received. Especially pleased to hear from those who have been through it and passed. :D

If, after paying for accommodation (mortgage or rent, or nothing if you live with family), your remaining net income is more than 460 per month, and you can live on this sum, you will meet the financial requirements of the visa application. There is no requirement to contact the DWP. You don't have to state that your wife will work and nor is there any employment requirement.

RE £460 per month for visa

Hi Lucapooka,

Thanks for your reply,

I was just worried because I have seen on forums before that other people seem to have much more money to put towards it. I'm not in a high paid job and I don't have much savings as all the traveling backwards and forwards has been very expensive! I did try living in Moscow for 6 months but getting a job was a problem.

Any tips anybody for things I should definately include in my application folder? I feel like my own government is against me at times.

Regards, Stuart
