URGENT: Attaining Sponsorship

Post by Farah13 » Wed May 23, 2012 4:49 am

Hi all,

Any advice or input you have would be appreciated.

Background:

1. Canadian Citizen under 30 years old

2. Currently on a YMS (Youth Mobility Visa) expires Dec 2012

3. Returned home to Canada after 1 year to begin my Masters Degree

4. Teacher (with Special Education Qualification)

5. Wants to return to the UK to work after the completion of my masters

Scenario:

I've applied to a job with the a university in London. Currently as I am entitled to work with no restrictions within the UK (the school would not have to demonstrate my viability over other UK candidates). However my work permit expires in December of 2012 ... how difficult would it be for the university to sponsor me in order to extend my work permit?

What options do I have? If employed by an institution in the UK - is it difficult for them to extend my work visa?

Any other tips for how to attain a visa (without sponsorship) (I do have a British grandmother - but she died long before I was born and all of her documentation has been destroyed and or lost).

P.S - on the registered sponsor list - what do the A star and b star ratings mean?

Thanks!

YMS is not a "work permit". Since you are outside the UK, any potential employer will need to assign a restricted CoS (RCoS) if they wish to sponsor you ... which means that they will need to prove that they cannot fill up the position from with the resident labour market. Also, switching from YMS to Tier 2 is not allowed.

If you are a candidate that a sponsor deems "suitable" and the sponsor can meet the requirements for assigning a RCoS to you, then it may not be difficult. Else, impossible.

The only tip is to check if you qualify under any other immigration category. Unfortunately, the forum members cannot do it for you.
