PSW applied without passport

Hi All,

I have a question on behalf of my student friend.

Scenario:

* He applied for extending his student visa through his university on 05-Jan-2012, since he needed 3 more additional months to complete his course
and waited till 03-Apr-2012 for the passport with visa.

* Since the deadline for applying PSW is about to end on 05-Apr-2012, he applied for PSW on 04-Apr-2012 morning without his passport,
but he mentioned in the cover letter that passport is already with UKBA with another application.

* But his university received the passport on 04-Apr-2012 afternoon with 3 months student visa extension till June 2012.

*Till date he never received any acknowledgement or any missing document letter from UKBA,
but fee is processed with his postal order which he confirmed from Post office.

Dates Summary:

Applied for extension of Student visa: 05-Jan-2012
Passport not received till: 03-Apr-2012
Applied for PSW on 04-Apr-2012 (morning), mentioning passport with UKBA in cover letter .
Passport received by university on 04-Apr-2012 (evening) with 3 months student visa extension till June 2012.

My Questions are:

1. Will UKBA ask for the missing document (passport)?
2. Is there any possibility for rejection of the application as invalid?
3. Will they give any option for appeal if they reject as invalid?
4. Is there a way to send my passport now directly to UKBA without waiting for acknowledgement letter?
5. After June 2012 my student visa will expire, can i still be in UK since my application for PSW is pending with UKBA?

Though he was not aware of the fact on the day, but UKBA did not have possession of his passport on 04-Apr.

1. No.
2. Passports or travel documents (page 25 of 65).
3. There is no right of appeal for invalid application and also when the applicant has current valid leave.
4. He may try, but without an application reference number to tag the passport to an application, there is a high risk of losing the passport. If a decision has been made on the application, then sending it may be of no use.
5. No, as the application - as it stands - is an invalid application.
