Work Permit-Query about validity dates

Hi,

I was following this forum for a while now and its been great source of information for people like me. Time has come for me to start preparing for ILR application now.

I think I will be eligible to apply for ILR this August 2012. I came to UK on a work permit visa valid until 24th Sep 2012.

My query is about the work permit that i have, which was issued on 8th June 2007 with a note mentioning it is valid until 60 months from then. The visa based on this work permit starts 24th Sep 2007 to 24th Sep 2012.

Now that my work permit expires on 8th June 2012 where as my visa is still valid until 24th Sep 2012, do I need to go for an extension before 8th June 2012? Or does the date on work permit becomes irrelevant once a visa is issued for it?

I presume the note you are referring to is the text under "Period covered by permit". If so, are you sure the note says ""it is valid until 60 months from then"? Or does it say "60 months from the date of leave to enter"? I believe it would be the latter. Here the "date of leave to enter" refers to the "EC valid from date".

You will have a "Date of Issue" for the Work Permit, but your EC "valid from=24th Sep 2007" & "valid to=24th Sep 2012" dates (or the date of entry depending on whether you entered the UK within 90 days of EC) are the ones you need to consider for your residency period in the UK.

Thanks a lot for clarifying. It indeed is "60 months from the date of leave to enter". Thanks again for clarifying. I can sigh relief until Aug now
