Tourist Visa

Post by prindp » Thu May 31, 2012 1:11 pm

A relative from Ghana is travelling to America, and from there wishes to spend a few days with us in the UK before returning home. However we do not have enough finances to be able to invite her on the basis of it being a requirement for her to obtain her visa to the UK.
She has enough finances to support herself. How should she go about obtaining her visa (without moving into a hotel etc. which is very expensive in our city)?

Thank you.

If this person does not need your sponsorship then they can apply for a visa on their own merits rather than yours.

Thanks for the reply.

The thing that's causing confusion for me is where it states:

"Evidence and supporting letter from your family member in the UK that you intend to visit

If you are visiting a family member you may wish to include a letter of invitation from them as well as their financial documents, as outlined in the finances and employment section above.
You should also consider supplying evidence of their immigration status in the UK, this could be copies of..."

This applies to both general/tourist (i.e. if not staying at a hotel, but at a friends place) and family visitors.

Because they'll have to state their accommodation details, by staying with us we'll have to provide our financial details (we have enough just to live on ourselves - we're unsure of whether the amount is acceptable for the application). They could as already stated book a hotel but again that will be pretty costly especially when they'll be staying with us.

If they are providing accommodation only then that is the limit of their sponsorship. They don't need to provide financial information if there is no offer of financial support.
