No name in birth certificate - Naturalisation

Post by jpr111 » Sun Jun 03, 2012 12:04 pm

Hi Friends

I need some advice from people over here. I am trying to apply for naturalization, however the state where I come from India has a rule that if you do not collect your birth certificate within 15 years they do not enter your name in the birth certificate. Hence I have got my birth certificate but the name field is marked with two hyphens as "--". Its ridiculous as I have chased every municipal department but no one is ready to help. They simply say rule is rule & its my fault.

Do you guys know if any affidavit can work in this case where I can say that this is my certificate etc. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
JP

Hi, my understanding is that the Department of Justice have a list of countries where applicants are expected to produce birth certificates if they were born there.

I do not know whether India is on that list or not. In the past they used to accept affadavits in place of birth certificates but they stopped that in the past few years. Now they are quite narrow minded about it and there is no middle ground. It is worth enquiring whether India is on their list or not.

Oh i feel sorry, we're still waiting, my mother use to tell me that, if she had past away, i would have find it hard to produce birth certificate for naturalization even when i dont have a middle name.
