Addition of surname

Post by indtwit » Mon Jun 04, 2012 12:45 pm

Hello all,
I want to add my name and my wife's surname in our Indian passports and BRPs. At the moment our passports have our first name and middle name as the surnames (as a result our surnames are not the same!). This mistake happened in Indian passport office but I could not get it changed before coming here.
I understand that to the process to change in our BRP I need to submit the BRP(RC) form, etc. Am I correct in understanding that prior to getting that changed I need to correct the surname in our passports first? Is there something I should look out for in this process. Will it be a problem if I change the name in an Indian consulate in the UK? As I understand this is the sequence of steps:
- First change name in passport (for this get married cert, name change, etc)
- Inform UKBA via BRP(RC)
- Then inform employer, banks, etc.
Thanks for your help!

The sequence of events is correct.

Moving it to relevant forum, for queries regarding name change in the Indian passport(s).
