Applying for Unmarried Partner Visa before July

Post by bustednotch » Tue Jun 12, 2012 6:06 pm

Hello,
I was planning on applying for an unmarried partner visa in October, as that will mark 2 years living with my partner. In light of the recent events, I will need to apply before July as I will not meet the new financial requirements after the changes have been made.

Do you think I will still have a chance at getting the visa if I am 2 months short of the 2 years of living together but can show signed tenancy documents until July 2013? Providing of course that the rest of my documentation is in order.

Thanks for reading, I look forward to your thoughts!
-Katie

I would say it's worth applying before the rules change) as by the time the application is considered (given the current processing times), it should be after 1st Oct. In the event that they suddenly get their act together and send out your biometric letter quickly, you should delay giving biometrics (which can be done 15 days after the date of the letter) to give yourself more time.

My situation is a bit different as I'm a self employed musician. I've only just registered as self employed and haven't done my taxes yet. I have a sheet of paper listing all income from the past 12 months, how it was paid, who paid etc and I'm going to get letters from my employers verifying this. I'll also include my bank statements to show my savings, and to show all basc transfers and cheque deposits, I've got a savings account in my home country that I will include a statement for, also I'm including a bank statement of my Mother's savings to show I could get financial help from her if needed. I'll also provide letters of confirmed work in the future, and letters from employers stating how they plan on hiring me in the future.

I'll be mentioning that I have no debt, and also don't have a car to pay for or anything. I plan on giving them a rough idea of my outgoing funds, ie, rent, bills, council tax etc to show how much I spend a month.

Hope that's helpful!
I think our income has to be higher than the cutoff income for receiving any benefits, does anyone know that exact number? The HMRC only seems to say 'low income'

Thanks!
