Just to be sure - Does the email state that they will be unable to accept the SET(M) application if the sponsor (you - British citizen or settled person) is self-employed or if the applicant (your wife) is self-employed or either? Please clarify.

Hi

You have recently made an appointment to attend Cardiff PEO for an in-person Visa application. We have attempted to call you on the number provided to discuss your case with no success.

Please can you respond to this e-mail within the next 48 hours to confirm you are attending your appointment and tell us the following information:

1. The date and time of your appointment
2. Your full name and date of birth
3. What type of Visa application you are applying for
4. If you have any dependants
5. Full names and date of birth of any dependants

Unfortunately due to high levels of demand for this service, failure to respond will result in the cancellation of your appointment.

PLEASE NOTE
We are only able to process EMPLOYED Tier 1 General cases here in Cardiff. If you are applying for a Tier 1 General visa and are self employed or a director of a company, we are unable to make a same day decision in Cardiff and these applications will be sent to a specialist team for further investigation. You are advised to make a postal application, due to the complexity of these cases.

Thank you

Regards

Your claim of what the email states is completely different from what the email really states.

Neither is your wife applying for Tier 1 (General) leave nor does this email say that a SET(M) application cannot be decided on the same day if the sponsor of a SET(M) applicant is self-employed.

So, you wife is applying for set(m). Reading the information in bold again why is it you think that the restriction on applications they can consider applies to her application?
