Life in the UK test

Post by Dansette » Thu Jun 14, 2012 10:28 pm

Hi

My wife is a US citizen and will have been here for 2 years in September.

I have some questions I hope someone can help with:

My wife is very reluctant to do the Knowledge and Language of Life in the UK test as we have two small children and she wil have very little time to study.

Can she simply extend her visa after two years and not apply for ILR and therefore avoid the test.

What happens if she tries the test and fails?

I just want to double check she really has to do the test.

I'm british born and she got the spouse visa through me. Since we have been here we have had a daughter in the UK.

cheers

Yes, she has to do the test or she can apply for a further period of limited leave to remain until she has passed the test.

The test is easy particularly for someone whose first language is English. She can self study at home using the text book. You can help her. If she fails she can retake as many times as she wants.

She has to pass the exam
It's fairly simple you don't need to buy anything (yes, not even the book)
there are chapter summaries which cover the salient points, online for free !
