Hi everyone, I need some advice, Ive been been in the country for more than 14 years, but haven't got proof for 2 of the years as I destroyed some paperwork by mistake. I've not been in any trouble with the law and I currently live with my partner who is British born. We've been together for 6 years, engaged and lived together for 2 years and have a 1 year old daughter. What is the best way to regularise my stay? Thanks for your advice.

Thank you for your post. You can apply for ILR through the 14 years ILR route. However, you have to contact your MP urgently to ensure that UKBA`s intention to close that route by the 9th July 2012 is either suspended or at least allowed to take place say in 2 years time from now.
Also, you can apply through marriage to a British citizen as you have a British partner and a child too. The moderators and other seniors will be better placed to advice you more.

The 14 year route to settlement will close down on 09-Jul-12. If you wish to apply for settlement under this route you must do so before that date. I have no detailed knowledge of the 14 year route to settlement but I guess if you cannot prove your presence in the UK for the entire 14 years preceding the application then the application will be refused (should you choose to apply before 09-Jul).

Alternatively, you can return to your country of origin and apply for entry clearance as spouse of a British citizen. Is that a possibility? Do note that if you make such an application (entry clearance) on or after 09-Jul-12, you will be subject to the new rules as announced this week.
