Tier 1 dependent (outside UK) - Main applicant job status

My wife will be applying as a dependent in August 2012 (at VFS Cochin) using the VAF 10 March 2012 Dependent form.

Due to personal reasons, I will be leaving my job this month hoping to start a new one in August. On the dependant application form, where it asks current occupation of main applicant, is it necessary that I should be in any form of employment at the time? (I currently have a Tier 1 visa till 2014)

Additionally, could you tell me about the changes to dependant applications from 9th July 2012. Is there some where I can read about it?
