What's the nationality of my forthcoming child

Post by whatcolour » Sat Jun 16, 2012 11:02 pm

I (PR at the moment) shall be naturalised within this month, but have a question
regarding the nationality of my forthcoming child, who is due shortly
and certainly *before* my naturalisation.

The complication is however that my wife will be giving birth abroad, so my question is will the child automatically attain British
citizenship? if not, what are the procedures of she/he applying for
one?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Your child (born outside the UK) will be British if a parent is British otherwise than by descent (eg naturalised) at the time of child's birth.

Non-British child may apply for a child settlement visa. British Citizenship application will be subject to discretion.
