How can I Prove my Child is a British Citizen?

Post by londoner150 » Sun Jun 17, 2012 7:05 pm

Hi All,

I was a British Citizen when my child was born outside UK. He is still outside UK. Is there any way of proving that he is a British Citizen, without getting him a British passport? Basically, I want to prove that my child is a british citizen so I can meet the maintenance requirement for bringing him and my wife to UK on a spouse visa, but I don't want to get him a british passport yet because the processing time for british passport is long (6+ months).

Can something like this happen. Is this even possible? Can I tell the home office I will apply for him for british passport once he gets to UK with my wife.

Thanks

If you are applying under the old rules (which I thought we had established in another thread you qualified for) then regardless of whether your child is British or not, you still need to include the child in the calculation for your maintenance requirement. It is only under the new rules that British children do not increase the threshold.

that said, your child's birth certificate alongside evidence of your nationality at the time of his birth is sufficient evidence of your child's citizenship.
