Academic progress from MSC in computing toMSC cmpter sceince

Post by la » Wed Jun 20, 2012 2:56 pm

Hi My wife is studying in MSC in computing currently -She would be completing this course by September 2012 mid. From there on wards, She wants to study MSC computer science in university HEI. She got an offer letter as well from University.

Can this be academic progression if some one moves from MSC in computing course to MSC computer science course. I am afraid that visa would be rejected based on academic progress issue here as she is studying the course at same level. Please help whether MSC computer science represent academic progress to my wife previous course MSC in computing.

Please reply at the earliest. Thanks for all your help so far.

It's at the same level so that is going to be a problem. It's therefore up to her and her sponsor to show that it complements or enhances her previous course. Good luck.

What is the difference between 'Computing' and 'Computer Science'?

Computer science is essentially an expansion of Computing. Both will focus on broadly similar subject areas, however a Computer Science course will (or at least should) provide a deeper understanding of the theory behind the practical Computing applications. For example a Computing course will (in most cases) contain some programming element. This will likely include the Syntax and some limited Semantics of a given language. Whereas a Computer Science course will cover the same material but also focus on areas such as Encapsulation, Polymorphism, Design Methods and Design Patterns. In essence a Computing course will tell you what to do, a Computer Science course will tell you what to do and why to do it.

I hope based on this computer science is deeper ( specialization ) after computing. Correct me If I am wrong.

I've already said that it's up to her and her sponsor to do that to the satisfaction of the UKBA. What we think hardly matters. I'm with Deviser insofar that I can't easily identify a difference, but I'm not in that field so my inexpert opinion is worthless.

I understand that even if CAS is provided by provided university for students in A rated private college, student is allowed to work 20 hours. Please correct me I am wrong in this.

I am dependent of my wife having work rights already in Uk since 2011 May. If my visa get extended along with her with this A rated college, Can I allowed to work full time. Please help me at the earliest.

She can work up to 20 hours if her course is level 6 or above with a HEI. You can work freely.
