TIER - 1 - Early Extension

Greetings to All !

My Current TIER 1 General Expires in May 2013 , i am planning apply for my extension in September 2012 .(Around 9 months before).

Now I have enough 12 month earning for the points. I worried about my future job security.

Question

1. How early i can apply for the Extension ?is there is any minimum time limit?

2. If i apply in September2012 does it create any negative impact on my visa application decision?
