FLR(M) - explanation why not applying for ILR

Post by kimiko_jo » Tue Jun 26, 2012 2:13 pm

We are applying for an extension of stay for my partner rather than ILR (which he qualifies for) as we do not intend to stay in the UK longer than another two years. We have to provide a letter explaining why. This is what we have drafted, does it sound OK to you? And will they accept this reason?

Dear Sir/Madam,

This letter is to explain our decision to apply for an extension of stay in the UK, rather than indefinite leave to remain for x.
As we are both Australian citizens, we moved to the UK with the intention of returning home at some point.
We currently intend to return to Australia to resume residence in June 2014, as such we only require an extension of x’s visa as we do not wish to stay indefinitely or proceed down the path to naturalisation.

Regards,

Wouldn't it be safer to apply for ILR in case your plans change?

ILR costs double the amount that FLR(M) does, and it is VERY unlikely that our plans will change. But even if they do - I am a British Citizen, so I understand that my spouse should pretty much always be allowed a visa to live here with me.
