citizenship character referees

Hi,

If anyone has had experience in this, or has a definitive answer I would appreciate it.
We are having problems coming up with 2 valid character references who have British passports, live in England and are on the professional list, and who are not related..

If I apply for citizenship based on 5 years residence, can I use my girlfriends brother as a good character reference? As we are not 'technically' related? Does it matter if he is curently living in France?
Or could I use a British-passport-holding friend who is currently living in Australia on a working holiday visa/work-sponsored visa?
Can I use 2 referees from my work-place if they fit the criteria, live here, work here, not related and are British passport holder?
Can I use a family friend who is waiting on their own UK citizenship application results, if they have not heard back - or must I wait until they have their British citizenship before I can use them?

Read the requirements again: one professional, one British passport holder professional or over 25. They should not be blood/family related to each other.
