Citizenship application / Section 3

Post by Nazz » Mon Jul 02, 2012 1:03 pm

Hi

My wife had an ILR for five years and intends to apply for British citizenship.
She is house wife never worked.
According to section 3 Form AN , if someone is unemployed , how shall we fill this section, especially Section 3.5 ( tax office reference)
I was told by an immigration lawyer that we have to pay voluntary national isurance contributions otherwise the application will be refused according to section 3.
How ture is this information? Do we have to pay these contributions because she doesnt have tax code?
Thanks

Does your immigration lawyer think that a housewife or a house-husband or someone who has never been employed or someone who has not been employed in recent years cannot apply for citizenship?

Does he also think that a person who has never had been employed or self-employed must pay national insurance contributions?

Don't see that "immigration lawyer" again!

sushdmehta's right. There's absolutely no requirement for British Citizenship for an applicant to be employed or to have an NI number!

Hopefully, you haven't paid the 'lawyer' anything. If you're unsure about documentation use the local National Checking Service (NCS) for a small fee.

3.1 – 3.5. If you do not pay income tax through PAYE you must demonstrate that you have discharged your obligations towards the H.M. Revenue & Customs, by attaching a Self Assessment Statement of Account .

Does this apply to my wife?

No. People who do not work have no obligations towards HMRC.

You are worried too much. She should put housewife on the form and move to the next section.
