Query about 5.2 (rent) in SET O - Appointment on 16th July

Post by bookshop1979 » Wed Jul 04, 2012 10:01 pm

Hi,

I rent a flat with my partner (both our names are on the tenancy agreement), however I dont pay the monthly rent. I pay council tax, electricity and phone bills (all direct debits). What should I answer in the questions which asks for the rent I pay? (question 5.2 > Do you or your partner, or both, pay any rent or mortgage for your home?, If so, how much do you pay each month?)

Appreciate your response

Thanks

The definition of the word "rent" is a payment, so you appear to be contradicting yourself in the statement made above. Do you actually mean to say you and your partner live in a flat for which neither of you pay any rent? Or do you mean your partner pays the rent?

I'm exactly the same situation as you. I think effectively you are paying half rent and half bills.

In my form, I ticked 'other' for the first question and put 'privately rented by me and my partner'.

For question 5.2, I put the total rent we pay together.

Hope this help.

I mean my partner pays the rent. To clarify what I meant by rent a flat, I said that both our names are on the tenancy agreement, but I cannot 'show' that I pay any rent.

Thanks

Thanks Ron. What supporting documents did you submit?

Based on the above the answer to Q5.2 would be "yes". I.e. because the question asks whether you or your partner, or both, pay any rent. The amount would be the actual rent amount (i.e. what your partner pays). If you want you can always include a covering letter to explain for clarity.

I don't think supporting document is needed to show I pay rent (I'm applying by SET(O) 5 years WP), but I will bring my rental agreement with me on the day, just in case they ask.
