The assessment under the new rules does not work, like it did under the old system. Now you need to provide evidence of "gross annual income" of at least £18,600. No weekly or monthly amounts are mentioned.

If you want to know how much £18,600 converts to monthly, divide 18,600 by 12.
The case worker will look for evidence of £18,600 earnings per year, regardless of how much your outgoings (bills, spending etc) are. Which is what I said in my post on 24th June;

You must submit at least 6 months pay slips.

£1550 Divided by 4 (weeks) equals £387.50

Actually, although a month is approximately 4 weeks long, some months are longer than others, so it is better to use the following calculation:
18600 / 52 = £357.69 per week

These numbers are 'Gross', so for a typical working person it would be something along the following lines:

Annual Gross = 18,600
Annual Net:

Tax free allowance = 8,100
Taxable earnings = 10,500
Tax = 2,100 (20% for basic rate tax payer)
NI = 1,320

Net Annual income = 15,180 (Approx.)

Now lets see the Net Monthly and weekly income:

Monthly = 16,500 / 12 = 1,265

Weekly = 291.92

Hope this helps.

PS - the numbers are roughly along these lines.

Mar 2012 - Documents collected - VISA Granted
March 2014 - ILR Granted

Harv,

Although your wage breakdown is helpful, it might lead to even more confusion for the people who are already confused about the matter, because everyone's tax situation is not the same (they might have a greater tax allowance due to unemployment, or tax rebate), and some also have student loans being deducted. You did state it is a typical scenario, therefore implying it doesn't apply to everybody. So that's fine.

I just think it might have been best to leave the information at gross earnings, because that at least applies to everyone, and is the basis for the visa decision. There is also less information to process, which is always best when trying to understand something. In any case, thanks for showing this possible scenario. :)
