Question about travelling after naturalisation

Post by rrmave » Mon Jul 09, 2012 11:53 am

Hi,

I am a BC and my son and wife are in the process of becoming BCs. My son did not require a citizenship ceremony so he has received his naturalisation certificate. My wife has her ceremony scheduled on 18/07/2012 and we are traveling abroad the following day. Would the fact that they are both traveling on their current passports be a problem? I could probably delay my wife's citizenship ceremony but am not sure what the case would be for my son.

If they did travel on their current passports, would this be raised as an issue , while applying for their British passports, i.e. travel using non-british passports between naturalisation and passport application?

There is no requirement for BC to exit and enter the UK using a British passport.

I assume they are not visa national / have ILR in their passports so they will not face issues boarding a flight.

(BTW - your son is not in the process of becoming BC. If he has received the Registration certificate, he is BC. Having or not having a passport wouldn't change that).
