British Registration for children living in India

Post by pullikanti » Thu Jul 12, 2012 12:44 pm

Hi,
Me and my husband got ILR in UK last week.
Now I am planning to register my both children for British Citizenship.
My children were born here in UK. But after their birth, we took them to India when they were 2 months old and they are living in India with our parents since then. We go to see them twice or thrice in a year.

Now my questions are....
1) Since they are living in India since their birth(though born in UK) can we register them for British Citizenship?
2) Can we apply for Registration as British Citizens for them in India itself?
3) Do we(parents) need to be present in India at the time of applying?
4) Should we use form MN1 only even when applying from India?

Thanks in advance.

Please note that between the time I answered and you replied, the law has changed...

See 'Receiving authority' changes for applications made abroad.

The correct answers should now be:

1) Yes
2) Yes and No. The application needs to be sent to the UK although the child can be in India.
3) No
4) Yes. You will need to send the application to the HO in the UK.

Thank you for pointing this. I already ready your article and posted there. Thanks again
