Applying for BC, I am self employed but have paid no tax yet

Post by castanha » Thu Jul 12, 2012 11:21 pm

Hi all, hope someone here can help me.
I have ILR and will apply for BC on the basis of marriage.
I became self employed in July last year and I am in the process of very slowly filling in my self assesment tax return online. I am working too much at the moment and my paperwork is desorganised too so I don't have much time and energy to deal with it...also I have until January next year to complete & pay. I will have 4 to 6 weeks time off beteween August and September and that is when I plan to tackle the tax situation.
However, I want to apply for my BC now because my referee is going on holidays next week for 6 weeks and I don't want to wait until him comes back. He is going to countersign for my daughter's British passport during this weekend so he will sign my application too, better than ask him to go all the trouble twice. Plus I am hoping to go abroad for New Year with my new British Passport (If they grant me one) as my curret passport is due to expire in January 13 and renewing it is such a nightmare, much more complicated than going through British citzenship and getting British passport I can assure you...plus I need visa to travel abroad to most countries on my current passport.
So my question is: can I still apply for my British citzenship as a wife of a british citzen (who works full time as a employee and pay his taxes) me being self employed (paid my NI contributions and can prove) but have not paid my first self assessement tax yet?
I can prove I paid tax in my last employement before became self employed.
Thanks in Advance

Yes.

Have you been granted ILR on the basis of marriage? Tax SA is mainly required for self employed applicants who were on PBS/work permit visa before. Anyway, if you haven't filled in tax SA yet, there is nothing to submit.
