Advice- ILR would like to be naturalised

Post by 9007 » Fri Jul 13, 2012 11:36 am

Hello,

I am struggling to find the correct information on http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/ and thought I might get a top level overview of my situation over here.

I would like to become a British Citizen.

I am South African.
My wife is a German passport holder.
We were married in 2000
I have Indefinite Leave To Remain/Permanent Residence status within the UK
We have lived here since 2001

1. I was wondering if it was possible to apply for British Citizenship/Naturalisation based on the above?

2. If so how?

Thanks in advance

You normally have either PR (under EEA regulations) or ILR (under UK rules). Either PR or ILR is required before applying for naturalisation.

If you meet the requirements, you can apply. You will also need to pass the Life in the UK test if haven't done so yet.

I suggest you read Citizenship FAQs - Common Questions - Read before posting. Where it states ILR, PR can be used instead.
