Canadian with a son born in the UK

Post by AlexanderB » Mon Jul 23, 2012 6:44 am

So here is the long and short:

My son was born last year in the UK. . His mum and I are not married. We may never be, but she still wants me to be part of his life. Do I have any rights to any sort of visa because of this i.e. he is my dependant.....any feedback at all would be helpful.

I need to get over there. Now.

Cheers,

A

You do have rights, but they are not unqualified rights. Its not like that you press the button of "a child in UK" and you get a visa thrown at you. I would suggest, that do a read through of BHC canada website, find the application requirements, and come on the forum if you are not sure about something.

What is the mother's immigration status in the UK? Are you in a relationship with the mother?

The mother was born in Belfast, she is a citizen of the U.K. and an Irish citizen. Same applies for my son. (Just turned a year old.)

We`re no longer in a relationship (its complicated, obviously) but she does want me to be in his life ... obviously if we were married this would make life easier, but that isnt happening.
