Changing from Tourist Visa to Student Visa?

I am getting my master's at UCL this fall and I have already obtained a student visa, which is valid from Aug 24 on. I do also hold a valid tourist visa as well (expires in November). The problem is that I plan to enter the UK this Monday (July 30) and I was wondering if I need to leave the UK when I actually start the course in order to come back in as a student? Or is there any other way around it?
