Best interest of Child

I live in UK last 8 years, now I am holding Post study work (PSW) visa. From 9 July 2012 Government announced a rule for children who lives here 7 years or more, they can be allowed to stay here. My query is whether parents can apply for visa together with child under 7 years rule as parents student/PSW visa would be expiring as soon as the child would become eligible for this rule which means the child gonna be in this country for last7years in september 2012 and parents student/PSW visa will be expired in end of october 2012.

What kind of visa would be granted to child and parents and for how long.

What kind of forms need to use for the child and parents

Best interest of Children (Child 7 years stay in this country) visa is it a law or discretionary.
