Proxy Marriage in Brasil

Hello;

My fiance and I plan on having a proxy marriage in Brasil.

However, according to Brasilian process, I need to submit my original birth certificate. I was born in Iran but I have no Iranian birth certificate as I have no roots there.... I am a Canadian citizen. It is nearly impossible for me to get a new Iranian birth certificate as well.

Does anyone know if I can supply another document to Brasilian officials in lieu of original birth certificate?

It will depend on the individual cartorio as to the type paperwork accepted for marriage. Cartorios are quasi-autonomous agencies and tend to make their own demands based on the loose framework of the State and Federal law.

In some instances, a Certidão de Inscrição Consular da Nacionalidade (issued by your national consulate general) will stand in place for an original birth certificate.

i second Lucapooka. You can try letter from Iran embassy there or Canadian embassy as you are Canadian now!!!!
