My Citizenship application – qualifying period

Post by SimWood » Thu Aug 02, 2012 12:26 pm

Hello to all,

Here is my story.

I came to UK in July 2006. Initially I had a WP running from JUL 2006 – JUL 2008. Then I extended it with the help of my employer for further 5 years. It was valid from JUL 2008 – JUL 2013. In the meantime, once my ILR qualified period (5 Yrs) was over, I applied for ILR & hold the ILR stamp since NOV 2011.

Now my question to all my intelligent friends in the forum is; do I need to wait until NOV 2012 to apply for the Citizenship or based on my original WP since I have now completed the 6 Yrs residency in the UK, can I go ahead & apply for my Citizenship?

Hope above is clear & any prompt responses from the forum members would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

1 year after ILR unless married to BC.

There is no 6 years requirement. There are two requirements: 5 year residence, 1 year after ILR which for many people means 6 years.
