Can I enclose expired current passport for British passport

I am going to apply for my first British passport after becoming British Citizen. I have just noticed my current Passport of current nationality has expired few days ago.

Do I need to get a new passport for current nationality before applying British Passport Or is it ok to enclose expired passport?
