How to proove right to work in UK?

I have discretionary leave to remain. Which gives me full time right to work in UK. Recently I sent my old passport and renewed passport with transfer of condition form to get my DL transfer onto a new one. Right now UKBA is enrolling biometrics to transfer conditions from old passport to new one so there is a waiting period of severel weeks.

I need to know how can I prove my right to work to new employers during all the weeks (minimum eight) that UKBA will take.

Can anyone help? No one attends my calls in customer contact centre in UKBA every time I call.

It will be hard to convince prospective employers you have a right to work without your passport.Did you take a copy of your DLR?

If you have a copy try take that to the employer and explain if they doubt tell them to contact UKBA sponsors and employers helpline.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but given it's not necessary to transfer your conditions into a new passport (you can simply carry both the old and the new) it would have been better to simply wait until you had found work before embarking on this.

I am not saying this to mock you as I do sympathise with your predicament; I'm merely giving out a warning for the benefit of others who might be thinking of doing the same thing.

Its a wonderful thing indeed. Trust me it was necessary for me to do that. Because I am looking for a job for about 4 months and am willing to travel as well. Plan was to travel 6 months after DL award and hope was that during this time I will manage to get a job, which I could not. Now travelling time is near and my solicitor recommended (before closing my file) to transfer it to new passport to avoid any trouble at airport. I look very different in the old passport. I hope this explains.

Have they not sent you a letter that they are dealing with your application?This letter could act as proof.


The list of documents required by employers is quite specific and it will be hard to convince an employer with a letter.

You could try and ask but by the time if they decide to issue you with one you might be getting back your documents.

I am still waiting for their reply. They have not taken the money yet from my account.

Perhaps you are right, they will take a long time to issue me that letter.

If you have not got a copy of your immigration status stump then wait until they send you a confirmation later.

and if employer shows lack of trust about your immigration status then , tell them to confirm it from the home office providing your details
