At which stage the proof of funds is needed?

Post by agahi » Sun Aug 19, 2012 9:08 pm

Hi everybody

I intend to start my online application for tier1 entrepreneur from outside the UK and I am wondering at what stage the proof of fund must be provided. So far all the info that I can see suggests that the money must already be held in bank accounts which I find a bit unreasonable.
My money is now tied up in business in my country and I'm not sure if the application will be successful. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

The money needs to be liquid, and immediately available for disposition in the UK. Good luck with your dream!

Really, I'm surprised that you are in this predicament as you don't have to make wild guesses; you can simply read the very informative policy guidance that is provided on the UKBA site.

Thanks for the reply.
I wish my gullibility wouldn't be revealed this quickly  but now that the cat is out would you allow me to make things totally clear for myself by asking more question?
So lets say that I need to have the money in the bank for 3 months before starting the application - as per requirements - and it may take up to one year to get green light to go to the UK then I need to put the money aside for 1 year and 3 months not to mention the time needed inside the UK to set up a business and actually start earning, am I right?
I don't know about others but if this is correct I would need two 200G, one for the application and one for living my life and maintaing myself in the meantime.
Am I missing something here?

That requirement is with regard to the maintenance; it does not apply to the capital. The visa application does not take 12 months; more like one week.

One quick question about the interpretation of liquidity. I will have the 200K, but much of it is in 12-month rollover CDs with my bank. Is this liquid enough, or should I wait to apply when I can put all 200K into a savings account that pays no interest?

If you have no-strings, instant access to the money (it's not locked beyond your reach for a fixed non-negotiable period), it should qualify. Obviously you may forfeit some interest if you pull it out sooner, but that will not matter to the UKBA. Your FI would need to clarify that the money was disposable in the UK on the letter you must include with the application.
