Length of stay requirement for Schengen port of entry

Post by SuePChi » Tue Aug 21, 2012 9:11 pm

I recently received a Schengen visa for entry into the Netherlands. Is there a requirement for how long I must stay in the Netherlands before I fly to another EU country or can I depart on a flight same day? Thank you!

You can move onto other Shengen states as soon as you wish. You need to comply with the overall time permissions stated on the visa.

Schengen implies that there are no checkpoints between internal borders. As such you can move from one country to another at any time, since you will not be checked during such trips (this includes flights).

At the same time this is perfectly legal.

Summary: Yes, you can and may, you just have to comply with the overall Schengen-allowance as per your visa (see also what EUsmileWEallsmile wrote).

Rgds and enjoy,
Christian
