Qualification & Work Experience for Skilled Migrant NZ

I am exploring the Skilled Migrant option to move to NZ, been reading for while @ http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/i35162.htm.

I have a query :

My Qualification is Bachelors in Mechanical Engg but my Work Experience is in Software.

Can i cliam points for both the Qualification and Work Experience even though they are not related to each other?

Further can I claim bonus points for Qualification being listed in absolute skills shortage

Any insight will be helpful..
