applying in person for tier 1 extension in october

applying in person for tier 1 extension in october

my tier 1 general visa expires on november 1, 2012
I plan to apply in person in october. according to http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... eral/cost/ , it will cost me £1,800

my question is:
When exactly do i have to pay the 1800 pounds? At the time of booking a same day appointment, or when I go there in person?

Any other inputs and suggestions welcome!
