Rise in salary?

Post by benjambell » Sat Aug 25, 2012 12:25 am

Hi,

I am on an old style work permit from 2008, working as an IT Infrastructure Architect.

Due to the recession, our company has had a wage freeze since then, but is now awarding pay rises to people.

In my case, while my role/job title has not changed, I am now a long serving / most senior member of the group and so they would like to award a substantial rise, i.e. about 20%, whereas most team mates (less senior) have been awarded between 6-11% pay rise.

I have declined/stalled this - as am concerned that it would be too much of a change in pay from the work permit letter and salary detailed on that.

Is this a problem? Or is that sort of pay increase normal and ok? Any advice much appreciated.

The rules are here, see the "different job, same employer" section:

I don't think this applies to you, your duties haven't changed apart from natural progression in level of seniority and since your pay was frozen since 2008 the proposed 20% rise now is nothing out of the ordinary, if you spread it over 5 years the annual increase is only 4%.
