Hello,
I am currently working as a research scientist on Tier 2 (general) visa. I have nearly spent two years on tier 2 (general). I am also married to a British Citizen. The recent changes in immigration laws on 9th july means the qualifying period for ILR on a dependent visa route is now 5 years.
I am wondering if I change my current status from tier 2 (general) to a dependent visa will the years spent in tier 2 count towards the 5 years residency requirement for ILR or do I have to spend 5 years on the dependent visa before I can apply for ILR?
I have gone through the immigration laws part 8 and appendix FM, but failed to get a clear answer. Many thanks.
