Interpreting KET Results: Please help

Post by amantane » Mon Aug 27, 2012 9:56 am

Hello everyone, I just wanted to ask about interpreting the KET exam results. My wife took the KET test end of July and only yesterday her results come out. Overall she has achieved 63% comfortably within the required level A1.

Here is her candidate profile:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Exceptional----------------------------------------------------------

Good-----------------------------------------------------------------

Borderline------------------------------------------------------------
Reading&Writing Speaking

Weak------------------------------------------------------------------
Listening

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can anyone help how to interpret these results? I am confused regarding whether she achieved "Weak" in listening or not! Can you please help?
Has anyone got some experience regarding this and what was the decision? I just don't want to send her visa application while not making sure she has achieved the required minimum in all components.

Thanks very much everyone. This forum is of great help and also helps deal deal with the stress everyone is going through.

Weak is considered a pass for KET at A1

Thanks Lucapooka for the reply.

My confusion regarding the candidate profile is that there are 5 bands and only 4 scales (Weak-borderline-Good-Exceptional) I am not sure whether the each scale refers to the band above it or below it!

It is just confusion the way the show the results. they could have just written it rather than graphically displaying the results!

Thanks Janata. It is really depressing to hear that. It is just frustrating to everyone. These rules are against the notions of family..........

To let everyone know, my wife sent the application anyway and the KET results in my first post were accepted by UKBA and my wife got her visa in the end. I am very relieved.

I wish everyone the best of luck in getting together with their loved ones.

Pls confirm if my understanding is correct and advise about your experiences.....

KET IS much simpler than IELTS ???

but KET is only available about 3 times per year ...so very LONG waiting..???.
ielts is available about 3 or 4 times per month....

are there any other tests acceptable for UK spousal I dont know...??

if you took KET s did you have to wait longer than if you had taken IELTS ?

KET results take 8 weeks

Minimum for spouse visa is A1 however ielts only tests at a minimum of B2 so if you dont get B2 then you fail.

KET measures from A2 to B1

PET measures A1 to A2

So if you want the easiest go for PET then KET, IELTS only if you are sure you can get B2 because anything less is a fail there is no score below B2 on IELTS.
