claiming benefits on ilr

Post by krssubbu » Mon Aug 27, 2012 8:49 pm

hi,

i obtained ilr in Jan 2012. My baby was born in India in Nov 2011. my wife and baby are on ilr dependant. My query is :

1. can i claim child benefits ? will this affect my citizenship ?
2. will my baby be able eligible to get child bebfits as she was born in india before my ilr ?
3. if so can i backdate my claims to how far ?

Thanks

1. Yes you can claim, no it won't affect citizenship.
2. Its you who is claiming so its your status, and not your child's which is relevant.
3. Claims can only be backdated for 3 months

You claim through hmrc. Google 'hmrc child benefit'
