My friend is "stuck" in Canada...?

Post by ashleycan » Tue Aug 28, 2012 2:35 am

This is going to be a really strange/different story, I'm not looking to be judged, I just don't know what else to do & am just looking for advice for a friend, so PLEASE just be nice! I'm not sure if I should be posting on a Canadian forum or not...?!

I play PS3 & have known a girl on there for 2 years, we have shared quite a bit with each other as friends. Earlier this year she moved from the UK to Canada to be with a girl she met on PS3 - a few months later, I moved from Canada to the US to be with my, now, husband, whom I also met online. We'd keep in touch about how everything was going, until she told me her & her girlfriend weren't getting along, which was about a month ago, so she said she was planning to return to the UK. I found out two weeks ago that her & her girlfriend decided to work work things out, BUT then todayyy I learned that her girlfriend beat her up, took her money & now she cannot leave Canada because she exhausted all her money that she saved up to Canada. As much as this is bothering me, I'm in no position to aid her - seeing as though I cannot work in the US legally until my paperwork is finalized, so she only has her mother back home but she is on her pension & cannot afford the 250₤-400₤ plane ticket home.
She didn't get a visa or anything, she flew to Canada as a visitor & was suppose to leave April 22 - she asked for a longer stay, but was declined.
So I am just wondering is there anything she can do?! Anyone she can talk to?! ANYTHING?

Well this is not a UK immigration matter. I am sure you can use a bit of common sensed here-has she gone to the police? Does she have any other family or friends who can help her? Has she contacted the British consulate/high commission?

She obviously knows she can contact the police but she's scared since she is there illegally. Her friends are trying to put together money to bring her home. I don't think she has contacted anyone, she's confused on what to do.
